EU Summer Missions began yesterday !
This year we have 12 teams heading across NSW to serve Less Reached and Less Resourced churches. Please pray for these students, staff, churches and local communities over the next five days!
Below is a little about each location to fuel your prayers.
Berkeley
Berkeley is a suburb of Wollongong, on the northern shore of Lake Illawarra. The community is listed as one of the 25 most disadvantaged suburbs in Sydney. Please pray as the team is involved with evangelism, helping in the local op shop and food ministries.
Bossley Park
Bossley Park is a suburb in the Greater Western Sydney region, colloquially known as ‘Little Assyria’. More than 60% of the suburb was born overseas and the largest religious world view is Catholicism. Please pray for the highly multicultural church and as it hosts both an Assyrian and Arabic congregation.
Liverpool
Liverpool is fast becoming a third city in Sydney with massive growth in infrastructure, and has a strong working-class presence. A large proportion of the community from Hindu and Muslim backgrounds. Please pray for the team as they serve the community at St Luke’s Anglican Church in the city centre, as they participate in ministries aimed at low income families, English classes and other local evangelism.
Greenacre
The area in Greenacre is largely dominated by individuals committed to Islam and Catholicism, and only 26% of the population speak English at home. Please pray for the church as it thinks through how do ministry well in an area with a blend of caucasian residents and those from a Muslim background, and for the EU team as they are involved with a food bank ministry, the Sunday service and a mosque visit.
Lakemba
Lakemba is considered the suburb of Sydney where the highest proportion of Muslims live, and as the centre for Islamic life. Only 14% of local residents speak English at home and the most common countries of birth are Pakistan, India, Myanmar and Lebanon. Please pray as students are involved in various programs that are offered toward the Muslim community.
Sydney Japanese Evangelical Church (SJEC)
SJEC is an outreach ministry of Naremburn Cammeray Church to people who are from Japan and living in Sydney, whether permanently or on a short-term exchange. Please pray for the team as they spend the week serving this wonderful cross-cultural ministry.
Campbelltown
The Campbelltown area is in Sydney’s South West has been projected as the next big growth corridor for Sydney over the next 30 years, with many new housing estates and schools being developed. Not as many churches exist for the projected levels of growth. Pray for students as they are involved in exposure to First Nations youth and ESL ministries.
Albury
Albury acts as a gateway into Victoria and serving a large region of rural towns and villages – along with sistering town Wodonga it is a mission field of over 100,000 people. Please pray for the EU team as they partner with four churches being involved in community carols events, walk-up evangelism, nursing home ministry, farm visits and serving in the congregations.
Campsie
Campsie residents are largely from an Asian background, and the area is a mixture of suburban residential, retail and light industrial developments. Please pray as the EU students go to serve the local church with their Mandarin Sunday service and their major outreach ministry working on English conversation skills with the local community.
Lanyon Valley
Lanyon Valley is located in the South East of Canberra, in a small community with the church meeting in one of the local schools. Please pray as the church seeks grow deeper roots and access into the public service. Please pray especially for students considering a graduate job in Canberra.
Berala
Berala is a conjunctional western suburb of Sydney which connects the inner west, south west and western parts of the city. The predominant religions in the area are Catholicism and then Islam, and 94% of the population in Berala were born overseas, with a large portion coming from China. Please pray for the EU team serving the church there, especially for students involved in Cousmin and EU Focus ministries.
Blaney
Blaney is a small country town with a population of 80,000, situated 20 minutes outside of Orange and surrounded by dozens of other villages. Please pray the the EU team would be a blessing as they partner with the local, serving with outreach events, Sunday worship, kids club, youth group, nursing home ministry, kids church and growth group.
Bateau Bay
Bateau Bay is an ageing congregation by the beach on the Central Coast. Please pray for revival in the community at Bateau Bay and for the team as they especially provide younger physical help to run various Christmas outreach events and the Sunday service.
