Students (still) proclaiming Jesus as Lord

by

“For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 4:5

The first object of the Sydney University Evangelical Union is “to present students with the Christian Gospel and to lead them to a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.” Since its foundation in 1930, students in the EU have been concerned with presenting students on the campus with the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord. Over the years, the university has seen many changes in culture and had to face many different situations. However, each year, as the students prayerfully proclaim God’s word on campus, God has been faithfully working to transform people by his Holy Spirit.

This year has been no different. As the EU sought to share the gospel particularly through Public Meetings, students took hold of this opportunity to help them in reaching out to their friends.

Primary Education student Trish, who has been sharing her faith with a Muslim friend this year, said of Public Meetings, “The topics this year made it easier to invite friends since it was relevant to them and interesting – such as dating and desires. I found that was easier to invite friends, and helped me understand better my friends’ world view.”

Nikhil, a first year Arts student, brought one friend to Public Meetings throughout semester 2. He said that he enjoyed coming to Public Meetings because “Christians talk about stuff no one else talks about.” Nikhil said, “I recently caught up with him to read the Bible, which was so good, and he also made the comment that he felt as though he had grown in his knowledge of God, and what Christians believe.”

We are praying that God would continue to enable Christian students like Trish and Nikhil to be bold in sharing the gospel, and to work in the hearts of many unbelievers to bring them to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
