Rejoicing in the Service of the Lord

by EU GradsFund

“How do you rejoice in the service of the Lord?”

In early February, over 150 student leaders and staff gathered for the EU’s annual Leadership Summit: a two-day conference to unite, train, and send the EU’s leaders into a year of serving Jesus at Sydney University, equipping them for a lifetime of service in God’s world.

“Contentment in Christ is the source of our strength.”

– Alan Au

We were incredibly blessed to have Alan Au lead our session talks. He is a pastor at Captivate Church and previously trained as a Howie with the EU! Alan’s talks were titled “Make My Joy Complete” and “My Joy to Your Credit.” Drawing from Philippians 2, he reminded us of Christ’s example of humble service, and from Philippians 4 he encouraged leaders to find joyful strength in the Lord.

“Father, do whatever you need to do to make me the Christlike man/woman you need me to be.”

Alan’s powerful messages challenged us; despite the temporary nature of our human flesh, we can be encouraged, knowing what Jesus has done for us. This gives us confidence and enables us to be bold in Christ as we evangelise others.

What a beautiful reminder for all leaders! Jesus is our joy, and we can pour our life into His kingdom and sharing the Gospel with others. Let us praise God for giving us all we need and pray that He will gift us an “indestructable, eternal joy.”

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”

– Phillippians 4:4
