Reaching Health students with the gospel in 2022

by EU GradsFund

As part of a Covid-induced consideration of how to best gather EUers in health related degrees, the EU Executive agreed to a proposal that for 2022 we have one Health faculty. This meant that towards the end of 2021 we dissolved the Allied Health, Applied Science, Pharmacy, Med/Dent and Nursing faculties and created the EU Health faculty.

We have a small but keen core of leaders who are leading our first year and senior bible study groups. Within the health faculty we are running 2 hour small groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. It has been a bit of a messy start to the year with weeks 2 and 3 being disrupted as a result of many classes being moved online – it has been difficult to build momentum into the semester.

Given the size of the faculty (nearly 300 EUers) we have also developed 11 discipline groupings (eg physio, nursing, medical science) which enable opportunities for EUers to build good relationships with non-Christians and therefore undertake evangelism. As a leadership team in the Health faculty – made up of our student faculty leaders, bible study leaders, discipline representatives and staff – we have considered together what it looks like for an EUer in Health to live out Object 1: “To present students with the Christian Gospel and to lead them to a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.” We have made plans for personal evangelism, cold contact evangelism, and an Easter themed evangelistic event.

Here are a two stories of EUers seeking to reach out to their friends with the gospel:

Nick is a first-year nursing student meeting up with another first-year non-Christian student to read the Bible. Nick didn’t know what to read, so another EUer encouraged Nick to use Uncover Mark with his friend. Pray for Nick as he introduces his friend to Jesus, and pray that his friend will come to know Jesus as Lord.

Phoebe is a first-year Howie (who is a Speech Pathologist). She is meeting up with a first-year Speech Pathology non-Christian student. They are meeting up to read the Bible and discuss barriers to faith. Thank God for this student’s openness to know Jesus. She recently exclaimed as she realised for the first time that “anyone can come to Jesus”. She previously thought she had to be good to come to Jesus. Please be praying for Phoebe and this first-year Speech Pathology student.
