Next Steps 2023 – in service of our Global God

by EU GradsFund

We would love to invite you to pray for and attend Next Steps 2023. For, from its global beginnings to glorious new-creation ends, the Bible everywhere emphasizes the vast vision of our one true living God and Lord of all.

As he himself proclaims of his servant: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

In service of our Lord’s vision, on April 1st 2023 (no joke!), the EU will hold its annual Next Steps day-conference to help students, staff, and graduates consider how we might take next steps in service of our global God.

How can we share our rich gospel resources with a world where 85% of the 2.2 million evangelical churches do not have a single theologically trained member? How can we extend the light of our Lord Jesus to many millions of less reached and less resourced (LRLR)?

By God’s grace, we share this aim with generations who have gone before. As Rowan Kemp has said, “Under God’s hand, the EU has always had a heart to share those gospel resources with the rest of the world. If you read back through the EU history, you will see that EUers have always been praying for missionaries, praying that the EU would send out more missionaries into God’s global harvest field.

They made it, indeed, an explicit aim of the EU: to ensure that Christians in the university were made aware of the nature, the needs, and the challenge of Christian service both here in Australia and overseas.”

And yet, despite godly precedent and overwhelming global need, making decisions about how, when, and where to serve the LRLR can be incredibly difficult. Often decisions about missional next steps cut against the grain of secular Australian culture, sometimes all-too comfortable Christian culture, and even the established expectations we or our family hold for ourselves.

That’s why we’d love to invite you to join us on April 1st for an excellent program—including talks from Pete Scholl, newly appointed National Director of CMSA—as we face what can feel like a difficult (yet glorious!) privilege of going ‘against the wind.’
