Meet the 2023 Howies

by EU GradsFund

We are very excited and thankful that this year, the EU Grads Fund is welcoming five new Howard Guinness Trainees! Praise God that he has raised up these faithful leaders to be a blessing to the EU and wider Sydney University campus. Read more here as they share about why they have chosen to join the EU staff team, what they are looking forward to about serving in 2023 and how you can be praying for them.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE STAFF TEAM?

A highlight of my university years was becoming a Christian and being part of the EU. I loved my experience and hope to walk alongside students who are seeking and interested in knowing Jesus, that they may come to love him just as I did!

HOW COULD EU GRADS FUND SUPPORTERS PRAY FOR YOU THIS YEAR?

Please pray for growth in godliness, patience and love to all those around me. Please pray for joy in ministry, thanking God for all my weaknesses as this displays his great power and glory.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT WORKING WITH THE EU?

I’m excited to see and be part of lives being transformed, as students know Jesus, seek to follow Him as Lord, and become confident and equipped to share the gospel with those around them. I’m also keen to see how God grows and uses aspects of my character and skills that I didn’t know were useful!

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO LEARN THROUGH YOUR TIME WITH THE EU?

I’m hoping to learn how to be consistently prayerful and faithful whatever my circumstances, to understand and obey God’s Word, and enjoy and rest in Jesus. I’d also like to develop a repertoire of skills and strategies for discipleship and training that can be applied in any context, especially cross-culturally.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE STAFF TEAM?

Jesus loved me and gave himself for me, and I have been so privileged to benefit from the fellowship and training provided by the EU, my church, and other ministries. I want to consider how to be a good steward of all that God has given me in the short life I have.

HOW COULD EU GRADS FUND SUPPORTERS PRAY FOR YOU THIS YEAR?

Pray that God would prepare me for the unique challenges and pressures of serving in ministry full-time – for good accountability, for discipline in rest and setting boundaries, and for peace with my own limits. Please also pray that I would depend on God in all things and keep beholding his goodness shown to me in Christ.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT WORKING WITH THE EU?

I’m really excited by the opportunities to love and serve the Design students, to help them reach their fellow students (who all study in the one building at USYD!) and to see the students grow in their love of Jesus and understanding of the depth of his love for them!

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO LEARN THROUGH YOUR TIME WITH THE EU?

I’m looking forward to seeing how God uses the relationships and opportunities in the EU this year to grow me to become more like Jesus, in love for others, relying on Him in prayer, and growing in my understanding of the bible. I’d also like to grow in my core ministry skills – reading the bible with others, training in bible study leading, growing in my own personal evangelism, and always being grounded in the gospel.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO LEARN THROUGH YOUR TIME WITH THE EU?

I am hoping to grow in my obedience to God as I continue to partner in His work on campus. I also hope that I will not work in my own strength or rely on working hard to see fruitfulness, but that it would be out of God’s generosity and grace that he would bring many students to himself.

HOW COULD EU GRADS FUND SUPPORTERS PRAY FOR YOU THIS YEAR?

Please pray that I would continue to grow in godliness for myself and for the sake of my hearers (1 Tim 4:16). Pray that I would sow seeds of hope through sharing Jesus on campus, and that God would transform the hearts and minds of students. Please also pray that I would be able to nurture students and their faith, that I would be able to train them well and equip them for a lifetime of Christian service in the harvest field.
