Diverse faces of the Health Faculty

by EU GradsFund

I would love to introduce you to all the students in the health faculty and to all the staff because each person is unique and has an encouraging story. But alas there isn’t enough room. But let me share briefly about the health faculty and introduce you to some of the students and staff in the health faculty.

The health faculty is a large faculty of about 300 students because we are composed of 12 different degrees (medicine, dentistry, exercise, health science & medical science, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology, radiography, and speech pathology). There are five EU staff in the health faculty. David & Rebekah look after medicine & dentistry; while Laura, Paddy and Kit look after the other degrees.

  1. Meet Our Health Faculty Leaders: Janelle & Tim

Janelle, a spirited third-year student studying Speech Pathology, is teamed with Tim who is in his fifth-year studying a double degree in Exercise and Agriculture. Both Janelle and Tim radiate passion, serving as fervent evangelists within the health community. Tim’s knack for fostering camaraderie shines through his inventive team-building games. The health faculty and leadership team played car-dines (which is the game sardines but in cars around the streets of Katoomba) during our planning days. While Janelle orchestrates impactful evangelistic events with finesse.

  1. Serena – championing evangelism

Serena, a fellow speech pathology student, is reflective, thoughtful and has astute insights. Serena has some really good ideas about how to promote “uncover John” in the health faculty. One idea is a video sharing tips on inviting friends to read uncover John – things that worked and things that didn’t. I have been encouraged by Serena’s personal evangelism to her friends.

  1. Laura Bee (Howie) – Nurturing Future Leaders

Laura’s primary task this semester is to lead six first-year small groups and to train 18 assistant small group leaders. This is a mammoth task. Laura is doing a fantastic job with an unwavering dedication. I thank God for her ability to lead a small group and thus model what is good to the assistant small group leaders. I also thank God for her heart to train the students.

  1. Isaac, Justin and Heidi (Assistant Small Group Leaders) – emerging leaders ASGL

Isaac, Justin and Heidi are all in second year and are co-leading one of the first-year small groups on Thursday. They are all leading for the first time. This semester, they will be trained on how to write studies, lead groups, manage administration tasks, pastoral care for members and how to meet one-to-one with members.

  1. Caitlin – nutrition representative

Caitlin is studying a nutrition degree and is also the nutrition degree representative (aside – there is at least one representative per degree to help the faculty team be aware of the needs and challenges of each degree). Caitlin is one of the small group leaders who facilitate the master nutrition small group, where they try to consider what the Bible says about food and how to integrate it with their studies.

Please thank God for Janelle, Tim, Serena, Laura, Isaac, Caitlin and all the other Christian students and staff in the health faculty. Please also pray for the >10,000 non-Christians in the health faculty that they will meet Christians while studying at Sydney University and more importantly know Jesus.
