Praying for Revival
One of the EU’s ‘Big Kingdom’ vision goals as we head towards the EU’s centenary in 2030 is to be a community devoted to prayer for revival. We long to see a gracious, reviving movement of God in the hearts of the tens of thousands of the lost at USyd, as well as in the hearts of all the Christians on campus.
To this end, we have encouraged every EU team to pray for revival every time they meet. We have held all-union and faculty prayer meetings to pray for revival. We have equipped student bible study leaders to encourage prayer for revival in their small groups. We have taught on prayer in our Public Meetings (you can listen to the talk on the EU podcast). Staff ran two seminars on prayer at the EU’s Annual Conference. Some of these initiatives went well and some struggled.
Have we seen revival on campus? No, though God has been at work in drawing students to faith and growing hundreds of students through the ministry of his word.
However, our goal was not to see revival, for that is in the hands of God alone. Have we seen a growth in prayers for revival amongst the EU? Wonderfully, the answer is a clear ‘Yes’! In an all-union survey this year, 39% said they prayed at least weekly for revival over the last twelve months. This was a significant increase from the 21% from a year earlier. Under God, we hope to see this increase further in the years to come. We hope that such devotion to prayer might characterise EU students well beyond their time on campus.
This Christmas, will you join us in praying for revival at Sydney Uni, and wherever the Lord has placed you?
