I first got involved with the Cantonese Christian Fellowship (CCF) at Sydney University five years ago. Back then, I was helping occasionally and getting to know the students. But two years ago, God placed me in a new season—stepping up to oversee and pastor the group. Looking back, I can only thank God for how He has revived and transformed this ministry in ways beyond what I imagined.
CCF is an independent Cantonese-speaking student group on campus, made up mostly of Hong Kong international students. Although it’s separate from EU, it has been a joy to see how EU shares its resources and heart for gospel partnership to support other Christian groups.
When I first started helping with CCF, the group was going through a challenging time. There was no minister or theologically trained staff caring for them, and even though the students spoke the same language, the fellowship didn’t feel very welcoming. Visitors often felt like outsiders. But by God’s grace, everything has changed.

Today, CCF is a warm, gospel-centred community where students are learning to love and serve one another. Praise God for this revival! One of the biggest changes has been the shift in focus at our Friday meetings. In the past, they were mainly social gatherings with little Bible content. But now, every week we open God’s Word together. It’s been deeply encouraging to see students growing in their understanding and confidence in the gospel.
We also have small groups during the week, where students can study God’s Word more deeply. These small groups have helped students build stronger relationships with one another and provided a wonderful platform for them to practise loving and serving each other in Christ. One highlight of the small groups this year was doing walk-up evangelism. For most of the students, it was their first time, and many felt nervous or even scared beforehand. But afterwards, they were full of joy and thankfulness! I also invited them to share their experiences at our Friday meeting to encourage others to step out and do walk-up too.

One student told me recently, “Before, I just came to CCF to hang out. But now, I come because I really want to know Jesus more and help others know Him too.” Moments like that remind me that God’s Word truly changes hearts.
Another highlight has been seeing more FOCUS students—especially Hong Kong international students—step up to serve in CCF. Many of them have grown through FOCUS Bible studies and training, and now they are using what they’ve learned to build up their own community. Their servant-hearted leadership has helped shape CCF into a fellowship that reflects Jesus’ love and humility.

Just last weekend, we held a joint Worship Night with UNSW CCF, and around 130 people came! The night was filled with songs, testimonies, and prayers. Standing in the auditorium at Barneys and hearing so many voices praising God together was incredibly moving. It reminded me that the gospel unites us beyond campuses, backgrounds, and cultures.
As I look back on these two years of leading CCF, I am filled with gratitude—for the students, for the partnership of EU, and above all, for God’s faithfulness. Please continue to pray that CCF will keep growing as a welcoming community where students encounter Jesus and live for Him. I’m also very excited about the 2026 committee—two of the four students have been trained through EU, and the other two are in my small group. They are mission-minded and passionate about sharing the gospel and loving students.
Revelation 7:9 gives us a glorious picture of the future: people from every nation, tribe, and language standing before the throne of the Lamb. That’s the vision that keeps us going—that one day, all nations, including Cantonese-speaking students at Sydney Uni, will join in worshipping our Lord Jesus.
To God be the glory for all He is doing among us!
