Unpacking John’s Gospel, the Book of Glory

by EU GradsFund

After welcoming our first years during Welcome week and Launch Day it was exciting to see many of them gather during our first week of PMs!

Over 300 students gathered in the first week to on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They were encouraged to stay around to have lunch together to meet, get to know each other and continue discussing the things we had learned. The two lunches I went to were well attended and had many introducing themselves to each other. Such a joy to see community form. I had the opportunity to meet a first year for whom it was their first contact with the EU. He wanted to join a small group in his faculty and I was able to direct him to the appropriate Howie. It is so exciting to be a part of this ministry that has so many students eager to study God’s word together and seek to live for the one who died for them.

Brian Leung delivered the first talk in our series on the second half of John’s Gospel, the Book of Glory. We heard how Jesus is able to clean a dirty world in John 13 as we looked at his great example in the foot washing. Jesus sets us an example by showing us the way of love and the way of loneliness. We were encouraged to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in humble sacrificial service of one another. As Jesus has loved us so we too ought to love others. And just like Jesus our love and service of others may be misunderstood and rejected but this should not stop us.

Ultimately, however, Jesus alone walks the way of the Lamb as he alone is able to give his life as an atoning sacrifice so that we can be truly clean and acceptable to God. Jesus washed his disciples’ feet on the night of Passover. He was seeking to show us that he was the true Passover lamb who alone could purify us to be grant us access to the Father.
